Reminder: FBAR Filing Deadline

The deadline for filing FBARs for calendar year 2013 is fast approaching. This year the deadline for the Treasury to RECEIVE your FBAR filing is Monday, June 30th, 2014.

Unlike income tax filings, the FBAR deadline is measured by the date received, not the date sent.

Here are some other frequently asked questions:

  • What is an FBAR?
An FBAR is a Report of Foreign Bank and Financial Accounts (Form 114).
  • Who has an FBAR Filing Requirement?
Any United States citizen, US resident alien or any visa holder who has a financial interest in, or signatory authority or other authority over, any financial account in a foreign country, if the aggregate value of these accounts exceeds $10,000 at any time during the prior calendar year. Filing FBAR Form 114 is also required for partnerships, corporations, and fiduciaries.
As there are substantial penalties for non-filing, if you are unsure if you have a filing requirement or have delinquent FBARs, please give us a call as soon as possible.
